PARK(ing) Day

With the help of Walk Boston and Livable Streets Alliance BU Bikes participated in PARK(ing) Day 2009, an annual, worldwide event started by Rebar group in San Francisco, the idea behind which is to rethink the use of urban space by temporarily converting a metered parking space into a public park for a day.

As part of PARK(ing) Day 2009, BU Bikes organized a BU PARK(ing) Day right here on the BU campus. We invited friends, strangers, BU student groups, and musicians to join us in the spaces to enjoy the outdoors and socialize with other people. Then on September 21st, 2009 we transformed two metered parking spaces normally occupied by two empty cars outside the Tsai Performance Center into a public park for a day, complete with real grass, couches, newspapers, coffee, tent, bike repair, board games, and live music.
