On my way to class today, I noticed something strange; there were spray painted bike lanes on the outbound section of Comm. Ave where there was previously no bike lane, which could only have meant one thing: The city has begun the process of putting down bike lanes from Kenmore Square to the Public Garden. About a block later, my suspicions were confirmed:

Hurray! I didn’t get a chance to check out the other direction yet to see if they had starting painting the left-side bike lane or any bike boxes yet, but I’ll report back here when I do.

[...] at BuBikes spotted the crews out painting today, hurray new bike lane [...]
I hope this is part of the comm ave project, and not just the MBTA finishing up loose ends in their Kenmore square project. December 1st marks the traditional end of roadwork until April (due to snow), so lets hope they get the comm ave bike lanes done before then.
As of today there wasn’t any new markings or crews working from the Bowker Overpass to the Public Garden. Nor were there any construction signs posted on this stretch, although with left side lines maybe those aren’t needed. Perhaps the work will be done at night, when there is little traffic, similarly to what occurred on Columbus Avenue.
I visited Kenmore square yesterday. The lines are MBTA ones, not part of the commonwealth project. The MBTA added lanes on beacon st (both sides of kenmore) and both sides of comm ave. You can tell it’s part of the MBTA project because the lanes end where the new sidewalks end.
Thanks for pointing this out. I stand corrected.
